Last night, littil hosted Laser Group Services at Tesla HQ in Melbourne. We explored the challenges our industry is experiencing in the face of the ‘Energy Trilemma’, a term coined by Chief Scientist Alan Finkel and referring to the triple threat of unstable wholesale energy prices, the physical closure of energy generation facilities and the inefficiency of remaining carbon-intensive infrastructure.

littil’s Chief Operating Officer, Ben Wright, presented a multitude of energy efficiency products and services as solutions to the trilemma including LED lighting, solar energy and battery storage. Ben explained that it is now clearer than ever that businesses with a holistic approach to energy efficiency are winning. There is a huge opportunity to take advantage of the booming solar and battery storage markets:

  • Over 30% of solar systems are now bigger than 10kW

  • It is estimated that there will be 20GW of installed capacity by 2035 and

  • There will be almost 4GW of paired storage capacity by 2035

There is a fantastic opportunity for Laser members to embrace the rapidly growing market and advances in solar and battery storage technology. In doing so, members can offer end-customers an entire suite of energy efficiency solutions and “out compete”.

In addition to LED, solar and battery storage, energy efficiency solutions extend to measurement and verification software and super intelligent finance methods including operating leases, power purchase agreements (PPAs) and environmental upgrade agreements (EUAs).

Cassandra Evans from Tesla was also on hand to answer questions about the Powerwall 2, Powerpack and the accredited installer process.
